Web6 Jul 2015 · I just installed a set of Reds Headers and a pair of Smithy's muffler's but was really disappointed with the sound on the Smithy's. To me they are really quiet. I haven't put the tail pipes on yet, (Have to go to town and have the tail pipes made) Maybe that will make them sound better. I want a nice LOUD deep sound. They make them from 12-30 length with either glass or steel or NO packing. 4 rows of louvers twisted into a spiral. These guys are artists! I love my new 17" steelpacks.
Web5 Dec 2009 · Always liked the sound from my old CB's but recently had new pipes fitted so tried out a pair of Smithy's. The Smithy's seem very smooth and not very grunty at all. Should I give them time to settle in? Do they get better with age? I've definately got the urge to swap them over for a new pair of CB's Anybody else use Smithy's and like them? Web20 Jun 2009 · If you want more mellow, you need the longer length muffler in a Smithy. Not the short one......people say it's real snappy and loud. Kind of harsh. I put 2 cherry bombs on the coupe, but need to add exhaust manifold gaskets since it leaks and can't really tell how the mufflers sound. On the convert, I just have a resonator type single muffler.

This said Pertronix advertise a Smithy's muffler that is electronically adjustable on the same principle as cut outs but they are a stupid price at around £450 each, although they are stainless.
